Hollywood Boulevard Pocket Park

Hollywood, California

Covering over 15 blocks, or 1.3 miles of sidewalk, lies the Hollywood Boulevard Walk of Fame.  This world famous Los Angeles public monument is visited by over 10 million guests per year.  Currently, visitors spend an average of 45 minutes exploring the celebrity stars and attractions that line the boulevard.  With recent developments of Boutique Hotels popping up in Hollywood, there is a movement to capture tourist's time spent in the area.

The design challenge; How does urban design facilitate interest, enhance a sense of place, and extend visitation?

One solution is shown in the image above; create parklet nodes along the sidewalk for people watching, selfies, or a place to enjoy a quick bite to eat.  Other ideas include; Pop Up Retail and designated areas for daily cafe tables and chairs.
