Golden Empire Transit Building

Bakersfield, California

The Golden Empire Transit District (GET) serves up to 500,000 people in the Bakersfield Metropolitan area. New Bus Operations, Maintenance and Administration were needed to replace its existing facilities.  The project centered around several objectives: a modern facility that would accommodate a fleet of 130 transit buses; increased operational efficiencies for 130 employees and 300 bus operators; achieving LEED Gold or Platinum certification and a desire to create a low impact, drought tolerant landscape which created an entry experience for visitors, an outdoor break room for employees, and a series of environmental features that captured rainwater runoff.

The design inspiration was based on the surrounding geographic composite of the San Joaquin Valley largely reflecting the foothills of the mountains and the agricultural patterns which is essential in the development of the region.
